Scope of activities: In accordance with the Belvedere's mission as laid down in its founding documents of 1903 and with its cultural and scientific remit, the Belvedere deals with the presentation, collection, and study of Austrian fine arts in an international context. Works of art created by Austrian artists from the Late Middle Ages (13th century) to the present day are presented in their chronological, cultural, and political context at several locations. Within its wide-ranging exhibition and event program, the Belvedere brings such artists and their works closer to the public. To fulfill its cultural and academic remit, the Belvedere also houses a unique research center and archives comprised of a library, an image data base, artist archives, and a department for studying the origins of artworks.
